Since the Kyoto protocol was ratified in 1997,
it became the strongest connection among the world's population in the
effort for mitigation the climate change. The main reason for climate
change is the global warming. Global warming is a result from the higher
amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere and especially of CO2.
The higher concentration of those greenhouse gasses are due to human
activities and industrialization of the planet.
The Kyoto protocol presents 3 flexible mechanisms that support the international
effort for emission reduction. These are Joint Implementation (JI),
Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Emission Treading Scheme (ETS).
At the present moment JI is the only applicable mechanism in Bulgaria.
JI is a unique mechanism that helps the countries, which are members
of Annex I to achieve their targets, towards the Kyoto protocol.
CoGen Engineering is among the first companies
in Bulgaria to provide JI service.
This service includes:
- Consultancy of the type, the structure, and
the possibilities for realization of certain JI projects on the territory
of Bulgaria (the Annex 1 Countries, as well as the territory of countries
from the Balkan Peninsula that participate in the Clean Development
Mechanism (CDM);
- Development of complete documentation that
is necessary for participation in a JI tender for Emission reduction
sale under the programs of the different Governments, which Bulgaria
has signed Memorandums of Understanding with;
- Coordination with the Bulgarian Government
for performance of all necessary law procedures and projects approval;
- Coordination with the Authorities and Organizations,
that purchases Emission Reduction Units. Up to now these are the Governments
of Austria, Denmark, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland;
- Management and support of the project's Validation
process;
- Analysis and implementation of complex monitoring
systems used for precise measurement of the released CO2 emissions
by installations, which are involved in JI projects, as well as for
installations, which fall under the EU ETS that will starts in 2008.
- Preparation of yearly reports for Verification
and Certification of the reduced amount GHG emissions, and further
support in face of the Verification organizations;
- Achieve of good price and conditions for the
companies that are involved in the JI, and the EU ETS.
